About This Place

Nestled in the charming neighborhood of Chestnut Hill, MA, Aquitaine invites diners on a sumptuous journey through the heart of French cuisine. This elegant French restaurant and bar brilliantly captures the essence of a classic bistro while infusing each dish with refined touches that elevate traditional favorites.

Whether seated at the inviting bar or at a table within the softly humming dining room, the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and casual comfort.

Aquitaine’s menu is a treasure trove of French culinary delights. Start your meal with standout appetizers like the velvety Foie Gras & Duck Pate, served alongside house dried grapes and country toast—a harmonious blend of richness and subtle sweetness. Seafood lovers will savor the Escargots Bourguignon, bathed in garlic, parsley, butter, and a hint of Pernod, or the vibrant Tuna Tartare Japonaise that delivers a fresh, umami punch.

Signature mains such as the classic Coq Au Vin and the comfort-inducing Quiche showcase legacies of French home cooking with a masterful touch. For those seeking something with a modern twist, the Truffle Burger provides the perfect balance of earthy truffle flavors and juicy, perfectly cooked beef.

Side dishes here deserve particular praise; the Pommes Dauphinois — a decadent potato gratin layered with Gruyere and Parmesan — melts in your mouth, while the crisp yet tender Roasted Brussels Sprouts paired with bacon lardons and fine herbs add an irresistible layer of texture and flavor.

For dessert, Aquitaine excels in delicate sweetness—whether it’s the perfectly caramelized top of a classic Crème Brulee or the light, tangy notes of the Meyer Lemon Panna Cotta with Raspberry Sauce and Coconut. Drinks from the bar amplify the experience, with creative options like the zesty Lemonade Martini complementing the meal beautifully.

Reviewers echo the exceptional quality and dedication that define Aquitaine. Many praise the impeccable service and authentic French flavors, with one guest describing the foie gras as “amazing” and another returning year after year for the consistent excellence. Excellent spot for classic French eats. Highly recommend getting a reservations although they did manage to squeeze us in at the bar. Of course the foie gras was amazing, but also really loved the swordfish!!

Great food, service and ambiance. French bistro dishes not seen often were nicely seasoned and plated. Service was professional, and good care was taken with special requests, such as sauce on the side.

Beautiful and elegant restaurant, with a good bar, good acoustics, pleasant music and atmosphere. Very good service, although our waitress did not wear a name tag or mention her name. The menu is a bit limited, not many options. We did not feel like having meat or seafood, so the only entree we could have was cavapati with mushrooms, and it was greasy. The portions were relatively small and the prices were relatively high. So overall not amazing but pleasant, nice experience.

Aquitaine is a great place for any casual dinner. Fresh food and good service. The burrata was great, the peas mixed in, not so much. Steak Frites was delicious. Service was a little slow, possibly related to covid, not sure but wasn’t as great as normally it is. Overall would recommend.
